H on eye

Hi. I've just joined. My daughter is 8 months old. We have seen an opth and derm. about her H. My question is what kind of doc do we see next for a second opionon. We are talking to a plastic surgeon and a doc who has a foundation for children with h. (they both are out of the state we live in). Her eye also waters alot, is that a normal thing with these? Any advice is appreciated.

Watery Eye

My daughter has a Hemangioma above her right eye and her eye waters a lot too!!! My docs wouldn't order an MRI to confirm that the tear duct was affected, but it doesn't take a rocket-scientist to figure that one out:)

I am scheduled to have her H removed by Dr. Waner in May.

Best of luck to you, go see a specialist (even if it means traveling), and get insurance approval if necessary. The specialist will be the one to tell you if your child is a candidate for treatment.

I suspect that I know one of the physicians that you're talking about... the one that has a foundation. If it is the one I'm thinking of, I would greatly value his opinion.

You can PM me if you want to name names!! LOL

i will have to figure out how to pm! lol but that would be great! the doc is in south carolina. i think we may go with dr. williams...he's actually one of the docs listed here.

Either of those physicians are excellent. In your case, I would base the decision on how easy it would be to get there, since they are both out of your state. And on which you can afford.

My daughter had an h on her eye. It appeared at 8 weeks, she went on 6 ml of Prednisolone at 12 weeks, and came off of it at 8 months and the h went away completely. She got chubby, but her pediatrician said the weight will come off over the next couple of months.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is prednisolone? is that a steroid? I do worry about the weight gain with the steroids, b/c she is already wearing 12-18 month clothing and is only 81/2 months. (she is 27" too). They want to do laser, just by looking at her from pics. It's so nerve racking. Oh, and Rameen (my daughter) appeared when she was born, it was very light pink, u really had to be looking at her to notice, but it has grown so much these past months. Thank you for the encouragement!

Prednisolone is an oral steroid. We were offered either Prednisone or Prednisolone - and the only reason we went with Prednisolone is Madeline's pediatrician said it tasted slightly better. Honestly after just one day we noticed an improvement, and within a month, the hemangioma completely disappeared. Oral steroids have an 86% success rate - it's worth trying. Madeline is now 9 months old and weighs 19.5 pounds (26 inches long). She gets a lot of comments about her chubby face, which I think is completely out of line, by the way. I used to hurry up and explain she is on a steroid, but after a while, I would just smile and say, "Yes, she is a healthy baby." Madeline has been compleltely off the steroids for about 3 weeks, and I have noticed her face is slimming out some. Her cute dimples are returning! I have had difficulties trying to post pics on this site before, but if you would like me to send you before and after pics to your email, just let me know the address.
