2 year old with dx of verrucous hemangioma
My 2 year old son was diagnosised with verrucous hemangioma on his right calf. My understanding is it is a relatively rare vascular malformation for which he will require surgery at some point in his life. It seems to be a relatively undocumented disease and I wondered if anyone knew of any resources for this condition? Or if anyone else has a child with the same diagnosis?
My son is 7 now and has one on his right knee. We have gone through many types of laser surgeries for a span of over 2 years and decided not to persue it until research and technological advances are made. He is very active and is very happy. We have taught him how to deal with it when it do bleed and also taught the staff at the schools and daycares that he has attended. Most have been very understanding and want to know the proper way to handle it. We use non stick gauze pads and the sports wraps. NO adhesives on it! This is something that shouldn't limit your child that much. We have chosen not to let him play certain sports (football, soccer, baseball - anything that is a contact and could rupture the hemangioma). We are in Ft Worth. Write back if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with.:p
