5 week old hemangioma above lip - advice? In AZ...

Hi all,

Our little girl has an H above her lip on the left side. It is growing quickly, to me, and her ped is sending us on to get advice/treatment. Tomorrow we see an ENT, and I have made an appt with Dr. Goldberg in Tucson for Friday.

Does anyone have a child with an H in this location? Has anyone seen Dr. Goldberg?

I was very confident in getting this treated, but now I'm an getting nervous. The woman I spoke with at Dr. Goldberg's office said that if he wants to treat they will do it that day. That kind of bothers me. I like to think things through and maybe even get a second opinion. Would this bother anyone else? Would you treat with him at the first appt? Is this how other Dr's approach this sort of thing?

Also, any other docs you've seen in AZ?

If you'd like to see her, my little girls pics can be found on our family blog - http://www.awindowoflife.blogspot.com

Thanks so much, I appreciate all your advice!

Hello

If you find that you don't want to have treatment during the first appt. that is up to you when you arrive. I would see what Dr. Goldberg has to say and why. There are reasons for treating right away... if rapid growth is occuring a doctor might feel it is best not to waste anymore time. Arm yourself with questions.... and keep in mind...this is your baby and you are the "customer"...it is your choice and your right to know everything, to have the options and opinions available.

I would also like to invite you to join the MSN-VB group we are in the process of building a new site, but for the rest of the month we'll still be here:
http://groups.msn.com/vascularbirthm...on=get_threads We have other families with similar h. and experiences.

Let me know if I can help you with anything. I do have a list of questions that might help you get started. Feel free to email me.

I assume you have already had your appointment... how did it go?
My daughter Madison has a large hemangioma that encompasses the same general area. Hers starts under her eye and extends down to her upper lip on her right side. I live in Colorado and we were told that they wouldn't do anything for her until age 4 by 2 specialists in Denver. Finally at the age of 1 we found Dr. Waner in NYC and decided to start treatment for her. She is now 22 months old.
I can send you pictures of my daughter and share our story with you and try to answer any questions you have if you would like.
