PWS questions

Hello everyone,

I have a facial PWS, which covers the left side of my face - below and above my left eye and my upper lip. I am currently having laser treatments, but have few questions that I hope I can get answers to. If you have PWS near your eye(s) and are getting laser treatments, how close does your doctor get to your eye with the laser? Also, if you have PWS on your actual lip, does your doctor treat your lip?

Thanks for any feedback!

Hello, if your doctor is lasering near the eye, (s)he should have you wear a protective contact. There are special contacts they use just for this purpose. If not, you should have the little goggles like used in a tanning booth. My son's laser was done on his eyelid as well...so each time he was fitted with protective googles or contact. I will leave the question about lip tx up to others that have direct experience; however, I do know that some doctors will laser the lip depending on the need. The issue is hypopigmentation (lightening the lip too much) of the lip.

Good luck

Thanks Corinne for your response. I do wear a protective shield in my eye, but during the treatments, my doctor stays about 3/4 inch away from my eye. I am just wondering if other doctors gets closer to the eye and if that's safe.

I have PWS on left side of my face , covering my left eye and even on the left side of the lip.
Regarding the eye, I wear a goggle during laser, and doctor doesn't treat the area surrounding the eye. My doctor told me that the only way to treat the area surrounding eye is skin grafting and not laser because the skin surrounding the eye is very tender and sensitive.

Regarding my left side upper lip. it has become kind of swollen after so many years. But doctor didn't use laser on the lip and he did remove some swollen part of the lip during surgery.

My doctor usually does it 1/3 inch from my eye but he got very close to it once when I asked him to. There was just more swelling around my eye after that to the point where I couldn't open my eye. But, even when my doctor does it 1/3 inch from my eye it swells almost as much.

hey all,
my PWS is on my left arm, all the way to my fingers, across my chest, along my back, and a small portion on my neck. I am 18 now and it has thickened severely, to the point where it is SIZES bigger than my right arm. I was wondering since it is over my heart, if the thickening could damage it in some way??

I wish you'd ask Dr Nelson that.

Have you ever had any treatments done? Perhaps laser could reduce the thickening.

Laser technology has come a long way! Get in touch with Dr. Nelson and get him to tell you all about it!

I can't agree more with Missy. I think you'll be amazed what Dr. Nelson is doing now to get more clearing on adult patients as well. He is working continuously on perfecting laser devices, supportive techniques for getting max. clearing.
