Need diaper hemangioma advice
Hi, I'm brand new to this site and looking for some advice. I have a 3-1/2 month old daughter that has a diaper area hemangioma that is very close to her anus. It is fairly small...maybe about the diameter of a dime?? Fortunately, we haven't experienced any major complications from the hemangioma so far, so she currently is not receiving any treatment for it. But, last week we had a few incidents of the hemangioma bleeding after a bowel movement. I know from my own online research (because her pediatrician doesnt seem to know much about them) that this can be the beginning of ulceration and infection so i immediately took her to the doctor. Our pediatric dermatologist has advised us of a few things to do when changing her diapers:
1. Keep barrier ointment in a thick layer at all times (recommend Desitin or Ilex). I actually prefer Aquaphor because Desitin is near impossible to get off her skin without wiping it. Any thoughts or suggestions on barrier creams to use?
2. No baby wipes. We are to use a spray bottle with way to clean her after a poopy diaper. I am really unsure of how to handle poopy diaper changes in public if I have to use water to clean her up. How can I do this without creating a gigantic mess? Any advice?
I am so new to this, never have experienced anything like this with my other two children. I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.
Hi and welcome!
Go to http://birthmark.org/experts.php and ask Dr.Serena but I think you are on the right track. Where are you located? You need to get an appointment with a specialist. I understand that laser treatment can really help in cases of ulceration.
