Laser treatment - Effects of PWS and KT

Hi all,

Have got a question regarding the laser treatment (intense light pulse) for a PWS . Have large PWSs on both of my legs and the Klippel-Trenaunay Weber syndrome was diagnosed many years ago.

Does anybody know if the Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrom in combination with the laser treatment can cause any side effects?

I'm not certain if I'm clear about your question, but i'll try to answer it. there are rare occassions when laser tx is not recommended on some patients with kts. most of the time the most contraindicated procedure has to do with treating the associated varicouse veins.(you would not want that done if you have certain venous systems that are missing) It is best to check with a doctor who is an expert in KTSW before seeking any type of treatment. In general laser tx on a limb pws does not improve the kts.

the top expert in kts is patricia burrows in boston, mass. i believe you can find her info on this site or the web.....email and phone. i have heard many patients contacting her via email/phone if they live far away.

Postponing the laser treatment seems to be the best option in my case.

Contacted Patricia Burrows and got a response really quick (see below). Port wine stain can be treated without effecting the venous anomalies ;D

I am not afraid for ulceration but more that the laser treatment (to remove the PWSs) in combination with the existing KTW syndrome will cause problems. Do you mean that normally that should not be a problem (remove PWSs while KTW syndrome is present as well)?
The benefit (at least for me) of the laser therapy is to remove the PWSs – test area on one leg showed good results after 1 treatment

Good you got your response. I just remember one case of a little girl who Dr. Burrows told not to do laser tx or treat her varicose veins. I'm not a doc so it is always better to ask those specialist. I'm happy you got a timely answer and best wishes with your upcoming laser tx.

Just had my second treatment and just wanna to let you know that the results are good. I think that the optimum for me is reached after 4 treatments.

In general they say that PWS on legs can not be treated very well but my results are good.

I am a bit confused thu on the REtreatments that might be necessary. Some say you never need them, other say that you will need them. Does anybody know what it true or is it very depending on the person ???
