lightening PWS

My Daughters Dr. said that she has a PWS on the back of her leg. It was present at birth as a very faint bruise. It got a lot darker and she is now almost 1 1/2 and is now definitly lightening. Does anyone know if PWS ever does this or could it be something else?? Thanks for any help.

For the most part PWS do not fade on their own. (but of course there is can be strange occurances that don't fit the profile of a pws). There is a possibility the lesion is not a pws, but rather a hemangioma? It might be worth seeking the advice of a vascular specialist or pediatric derm.

I do disagree with Corinne. The fact is that PWS are beningn vascular lesions caused by a disfunction on the capillaries nerve. It uses to appear on any part of the body, and because the nerve could be repolarized, it's absolutely possible that the PWS could be lightening or in fact can dissapear.

I have talked with two patients that had pws appear "late" (in childhood) and another adult w/ pws that did fade on its own and then darkened again. These are cases that don't fit the normal pws profile. This is extremely rare and more importantly it is a good idea to have this evaluated by a vascular specialist to make sure of diagnosis.
