Hair Follicle regrowth after laser treatment

I have a port wine stain on my face. I checked into having it removed about 3 or 4 years ago. at that time, my physician told me that laser treatment of port wine stains was well established but fairly new. we could not find information if laser treatment destroys the ability for facial hair to regrow. I dont have a berrd at this time but would like to maintain the option to hide my port winne stain with a beard. Does anyone have information about how laser treatment for port wine stains affects the ability of regrowth of hair foliccles? thank you

My son had 8 laser tx. on his face/scalp for a segmental hemangioma. He is only 5 (almost 6) so I am not sure about his beard...but his hair has filled in nicely on his scalp where the h. at one point dominated (very little hair growth and what he had was odd texture). His final laser tx. 1/2 his head was shaved to trace the vessels... his hair grew back and thickened to match the rest of his hair.

I would email Dr. Nelson from the ask the expert list.... he explained to me aboout light color and what it destroys. I'd go into more detail, but don't want to mis-state what he said. Do email him.

I have a PWS on my eyebrow area, and though the laser burns off some of the existing eyebrow, it starts regrowing within a few months of the treatment, even with the birthmark still there.

My son is 13 and has a PWS on his left cheek. He has already started to grow facial hair and in fact started growing it on the PW cheek sooner than the right. This is because there is an accelerated growth component to the PWS tissue, if I'm saying this correctly. Even with the 60 or so laser treatments he has had, there is no evidence that it has destroyed the ability to grow hair. I wouldn't let that discourage you from seeking treatment. Good luck.
