Need some advice please.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could help.

My daughter is 3 1/2 months old. She has a slight strawberry mark on the skin between her top lip and her nose. It hasn't grown in size for quite a while now which is good.

Directly under the mark it looks like the strawberry mark continues onto the under side of her top lip. Again this hasn't got any bigger and isn't very noticable.

It isn't connected to her gums in any way just her top lip. It is like a small bulge.

We have seen our doctor and she has referred us to the community paediatrician which will be in about 6 weeks as it isn't urgent. She wasn't overly concerned and said they usually disappear on there own but as it is near her mouth she would like someone else to take a look just in case.

My questions are. What treatment is available for this type of birthmark?

The fact that there is a mark on her face doesn't bother us as its part of her and she is lovely. The only concern is the part of it that seems to be under her top lip.

Do I need to push for a quicker appointment or try to get seen by a birthmark specialist?

I am based in the UK.

I fully understand you can't make a diagnoses of any sort from this but any help would be appreciated.

Hi Paul

Since the lesion is small and is not growing so far and is not interfering with feeding, I think it's absolutely appropriate to wait for your appointment.

What you describe could be PWS or a hemangioma. Hemangioma usually will grow some and PWS can be a little "bulgy." The treatments are different, so you really need someone to look at it and say for sure.
