they pediatrician mentioned leaving it alone, but my concern is not cosmetic...i was worried because of it's location. i don't know what to expect, as far as how quickly it will grow, etc. i don't want it to impact her vision.

I would seek immediate treatment because of it's location rather than the "wait and see" approach. Never know if it will grow into the way of her eye and impact her much more than cosmetically. I too would guess it will not grow very large, but you really never know with hemangiomas.

I also would not take the wait and see. My daughter did not have any sign of a birthmark at birth. Over the first four months we waited and it grew very drasatically. I would have never done anything, but since it became ulcerated I did. That was too late, she was already in a lot of pain. She had hers removed on 5/10 and it was sooo great. No child should ever have to deal with the emotional burden that birthmarks can bring. Technology nowdays is amazing! You can wait, but there are certain timelines and such that doctors follow. I would think that because of location, doctors would want surgery to avoid it hurting vision. If that is an option, I have to say, in my opion, that it is the easiest. No medicines filling up your child, no painful laser treatments.

we are using timolol and have definitely seen a difference! we noticed improvement right away! however, my dd has multiple large segmental hemangiomas and is now using propranolol as well, so its hard to say which is making the bigger difference. good luck to you!

Unfortunately I waited until her H had started thickening and raising (about 2 mm off her face) which makes laser less effective.... I was expecting the laser to remove it immediately, but had to realize that these things grow until about 6-8 months, so getting it to go away completely with laser was a high expectation since the growth period is not over for a few more months. However I do think the laser has kept my daughter's cheek H small and speeded up involution - hers is now graying in the middle, flatter, and is a light red on the borders instead of bright red. We will continue to laser once a month until it is gone and I believe lasering will help her H be gone by 1 year instead of by 5 years, which is a good thing. Not sure how to post pics, but if I figure it out I will. I think the Timolol is also helping so I've been happy with the laser/topical beta blocker combo - way less hectic than propranolol (athough I know propranolol is very effective too).
