Red face Day 12 of propranalol

Hi my name is Nicole. My daughter is 4 months old and has a hemangioma on her left cheek 4x4 in size. We have recently started propranolol-Day 12 to be exact. I am needing some information from other parents whos children have previously or are using propranolol, any side effects? Positive results? etc. Day 12- i have seen minimal results, no side effects and a little softer- but it is only early days. Anybody with information please comment

Hi and welcome!

There are LOADS of parents here who will share success stories. And while there can be a couple of things to watch out for (monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar sometimes) there are very few side effects.

More parents will come by soon!

Missy

My daughter has been on Propanolol for 8 months. We have not seen any side effects and it has done wonders for her hemangioma. She will be on it into the summer, then hoping to wean off.

Yep, most people see great results. Unfortunately we have not. My daughter has a large hemagioma on her cheek, and we started her on propanolol when she was 5 weeks old. She is now over 3 months old and there has been no change. We are looking into surgery in the future. Hopefully you will have success with the medication though - we haven't seen any bad side effects!

i took a look at the photos. She is gorgeous! My daughter has one in the same spot, it is about 4x4. Also a friends daughter who is now 5months has been on propanalol for 4 months and there has been a noticable change in the size colour and growth- but admitingly much bigger than your little princess's H, it travels over the nose and covers her cheek and part of her forehead. My daughter is 4 and a half months and has been on propanalol for a few weeks now, no change at the moment. I would not have left it as long as i did to see a specialist, but all the paedeatricians and doctors i saw stated there was nothing i could do until she was 12 months. Fortunetely they were wrong. I will upload some photos in a couple of days. My specialist opinion is it can take upto 6 months before any noticable results.... just thought i would let you know that maybe you need to let time heal, atleast give it a couple more months then opt for surgery unless that is not an option. Good luck for your precious little princess

Thanks Nicole! Yeah, we definitely plan to wait a bit. She is staying on the propanolol for a bit longer and we will consider surgery in a few months. If she does have to have surgery, I'd rather do it while she is too young to remember.

I hope that you start to see results soon and no side effects!

Hi Nicole.

My son is also on Propranolol. He has been for 1 year and 8 months. He startede the medication when he was 7 weeks old. It has a super effect. The Hemangioma is covering his bottom half ear and some of his neck. Propranolol has really worked wonders here.
So dont give up

This is a picture from when my son was 7 weeks old and had just started propranolol.

In this picture the hemangioma is almost skincolor and the ear is normal. This is after 1 year and 8 months on propranolol
