Does laser PWS removal destroy hair follicles?

Hello

I found this forum via google.

I have a Port wine stain on the back of my neck. It starts somewhere in the middle of my neck and moves up into the scalp (where hair should be). Since I have to shave my head due to hereditary hairloss (yes, at 23 I look like 75) this stain is clearly visible and i would like to get it removed.

So I thought about laser. I know there are different lasers for different skin problems. Some lasers are used for hair removal. I don't want any more hairfollicles destroyed than already are.

Can somebody please tell me what lasers are used to get rid of PWS and if they destroy hair follicles?

I have attached a picture, so you can see where the stain approximately is located (this is not my head...)

honestly, your own pic might of help with persons answering but is ok.

I don't think i've heard anyone mention problems with hair follicals but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

hopefully someone with knowledge will put in soon

Hello, sorry Peter I don't have any answers but I was also wondering the same thing. I also wonder how they do treatment on the scalp for people with long hair. Do they have to shave or cut it or do they not bother with it because hair is covering it in the first place?

I have had multiple treatments (at least 4 different types of lasers) and yes it does "burn" the hair that you have over your birthmark (bad news). But it grows back (good news). The worst part is the smell while you get treatement (the smell of burnt hair). But the cool part is the little mushroom cloud your hair makes while it burns from the laser treatments (seriously pretty cool). I have had 50-100 treatments on my Right Arm, Chest, and Right Shoulder/Back and there is hair all over my arm and chest (normal amount). You may experience scarring (which was REALLY bad on me), so it is definately something to consider.
