Default AVM on right leg and pregnant

I was born with AVM onmy right leg.
It goes from my back all the way down to
my toes. I never thought that I would have to worry about it f I got pregnant, because I am very lucky that it goes around all my major organs. but, now that have spoke to a specialist, she toldme that since mst of my blood i being pumped to my leg that when you are pregnant you produce more blood and your heart pumps harder. Well, now that I am receving more blood my heart has to pump even hearder because it doesn't register that my leg is taking mst of the blood. I am worried, and I have to have some tests done to my heart a little futher into the pregnancy. Any suggestions or comments?

I have an AVM of the left leg and Knee. I am 30 years old and have one child she is now 10. You may want to consult with a heart specialist if nothing more than to monitor your heart function while you are pregnant. I was very lucky I had no major happenings with my heart while I was pregnant. I chose not to have any other children because of the risk, though would have loved to have had 4.email me if I can help you. Good luck.

Hi, I am 43 and have avm's on my arm, chest and neck. I have one daughter who is 15 and during my pregnancy with her my arm got a lot more swollen and the pain was increased dramatically. The pregnancy itself and delivery went wonderfully and she is beautiful and healthy. I had one other pregnancy after that at 30 years old and it ended in miscarriage but during those 12 weeks of pregnancy there was an increase in tumor (or malformation) growth and pain/swelling. I kept the arm (fingers to shoulders) wrapped at all times and it helped to alleviate some discomfort.
Good luck, my prayers are with you and your baby.

Cuety,

glad to have read your post.

i have a venous malformation on my left leg, with scattered ones up my leg, in various different places, and a slightly larger concentration on my private areas (pregnancy.. yeah, ouch!).

how this will affect a pregnancy has always been my greatest fear...i want children more than anything in my life. i haven't had much medical attention, I need an MRI and i'm in college (not rich).. so i feel really stagnant and helpless right now.

Please, please, please keep me informed with how you're doing. I might not have any info to give you, or any help.. but I'll give you my prayers and complete support.

Hi Christielee21

I have the same thing (I think) on my left thigh too. I'm just starting to do research now. I had surgury when I was a baby and again when I was 18. I'm 34 now and I'm also in college like you so no money either. Mine started out as a "strawberry birthmark" and is on my upper left thigh and some in the genital area as well. The swelling is worse sometimes and goes down a little other times. Does this happen to you as well? Anybody with any info on this I'd appreciate it.
