Default Treatment at University Of Michigan

Hi, I'm new here and we have just started seeking treatment for our 6 month old dd. Her pws is on the right side of her head, cheek, ear, neck and back. We had a consultation with Dr. Orringer in the UofM cosmetic dermatology dept. Is it better to seek treatment with a dermatologist or a pediatric plastic surgeon? Does anyone have experience with treatment at UofM? We feel overwhelmed and scared about this process. Do we use general anesthesia? That's what the dr. would prefer, says he can treat more of the area that way, but it is up to us. It seems scary to me to have general anesthesia for as many treatments as it will require. thanks for your advice.

I would suggest using the general anethesia for it is painful and especially for a large area. The g.a used is via mask; most children wake up cranky or vomit some. It is a lot safer than we think. My son has a hemangioma...but has had 6 tx (1 more this friday) and one in office test run...with no anthesia. It went ok for "holding him down"...but it was three dots...took 10 seconds max. He cried very similar to having his immunizations. However, a large area would be just too much in my opinion to handle...too much for the child and the parent holding them.

If you have any q's just let me know. I am not familar with docs in Mi ...but others might. I can't say which type of specialist is best.... their experience is probably the key.

hi dont be scared my son is four years old and they have put him to sleep everytime they do his laser surgery. He has had 17 laser surgeries, there's never been any complications, he always wakes up fine.
He has had all of his treatments in Chicago, I would highly recommend general anesthesia. If you have any questions or concerns, I would share all my experiences with my son's surgeries.e-mail me anytime i will be happy to help anyway i can my e-mail is steinhi@gmail.com please let me know how your surgery goes.
