Our embolization photo's

Ben's AVM embolization was successful. It was 99% occluded.
The AVM is located in the back right side of his head in the tentorium area of the brain.

These are pics of before and after a detachable coil embolization. The last pic is just a different contrast to see what the coils look like once they're in place.

Hope this helps visualize what actually happens during an embolization.

What kind of test was this, As you know I have AVM, but MRI does not show this does it? The first photo looked kind of scary, I would have hated to be in your shoes the first time you saw it. I am glad it went well.

Hi Hank! How ya feeling??

The MRI does show the AVM, just not quite as detailed as this. These photos are angiogram xrays. The first photo is what Ben's AVM looked like before they did the embolization, the second one is the xray of Ben's AVM (or lack of) after they put 12 coils in the abnormal artery. The third is an xray showing the coils...after the dye from the angiogram had dissipated.

It was scary....but the first time I saw it was after it had already been fixed. The MRI films were scary enough for me before the embolization, I'm glad I never saw the angiogram pics before the surgery.
