Kindergartner with PWS...help.

I feel sooo much better now that I've heard from you guys.* I just needed* to hear from people who know and understand and have experience with this.* It's much harder to hear from people who don't really know what it is like.* Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And we love Violet so much and are not ashamed of the birthmark.* As a mother, I just want to save her (and myself) the grief of cruel kids...I know unrealistic.* It's just when she hurts, I hurt.* I'm her mother...I can't help it.* Thanks again.* Really!*

I don't need to add anything more then what was said... My daughter is 16 and grew up with a large H on her nose..no treatment at all until she was 11..

so, I understand fully what you are fearing.. but the part about " feeling her pain and trying to spare her"..I know we all feel that and worry about that..but,,the most important thing I think our children learn,,and a very valuable future lesson in life is..

THEY LEARN COPING SKILLS....... at a very young age..and we as adults know how important it is to know how to cope when things don't go the way you want them to..All children need to know how to cope,,and all children will be "teased" for something,,,

We talk to our children and we explain to them skills and life lessons earlier then most parents,,this is our fear for them,,but in the long run ..our kids become more patient, more understanding and more sensitive to life challeneges,,and I belive this is a GOOD THING!!

You and your daughter will be fine as long as the communication, love, trust and acceptance is all brought out in the open..

I have a daughter who is in Knidergarten now. She has a PWS on the left side of her face that goes up into the forehead. She just had her seventh treatment. We decided 3 years ago to do the surgeries bc of the risks that she might face later. Although she will more than likely face them even w/the treatment we are doing this for her bc well it's what we decided as a family. When/if she ever gets to the point where she wants them to stop we will stop them. Right now she loves going to the hospital that we have them done at...(the Boston shriners) Then again they ooo and ahhh over her lol.

I just basically wanted to tell you sugar that school has not been an issue for our daughter she actually started the school year out 3 days after a treatment. The only "bad" comment she got was a little girl told her she hated her birthmark bc it hurt Gabby. Gabby told her it doesn't hurt, just the face gets bruised lol. Out of the mouth of babes. Our daughter goes to a school where their are children w/disabliities so that could very well help out the situation. I wish you luck and don't ever worry about being too overprotective now a days we need to be that w/our children bc of all of the violence.

We are putting Violet in school after the winter break. She already knows a little girl who will be in her class who is excited for Violet to be there. Violet is excited as well. I can also volunteer as much as I want which makes me feel better. Thanks everyone again for all your help. I was flipped out for a while. ;D
