Dr. Roy Geronemus vs. Dr. Milton Waner

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I was just wondering if anyone can help me with information.

My daughter is almost 2 1/2 years old. She has a pws on
her left forhead which extends to the middle of her head, down below her eye and on her entire nose. She has been receiving treatment since she was 2 months old. I was told and from the research that did "the earlier the better" I believe she uses the v-beam laser. She already had 12 treatments. It definitely became lighter however, since her last treatment I think it darkened.

I use Dr. Roy Geronemus. I recently heard about Dr Milton Waner and am trying to do some research see the difference between them.
Is there anyone that can help with with this information. I would greatly appreciate it. ( My overly concerned grandmother is busy telling me to go for a second opinion to Dr. Waner)

Just wanted to let you know Dr. Waner uses the V-Beam PDL. If Dr. Geronemus is close to where you live I would suggest keep seeing him, and ask him if he can turn up the voltage on the machine. It will take time to get the PWS removed. I started when I was 5 years old and have been doing for 14 years off and on now.

I would try all your options before see Dr. Waner because it will cost you twice as much with the hospital bills, plus travel expenses. Dr. Waner is very good, but also, very busy. It will take aleast three to four months just to get into see him.

I would get your current doctors opinion on if the treatments are still working, if he does not have a answer I would suggest getting a second opinion in your area. If you go to the front page of this site and click on resources, then find a physican, and then your state or one close to you. If there are a couple call them all and see what they say.

Also, if your daughters marks are puffing up or swelling I would get a opinion of a plastic surgeon.
When your daughter is hyper, angry, or active her marks will get darker because her blood flow is increasing.
It happens to me all the time, do not worry she can not tell, or even feel it. The only way I can tell is if I look in the mirror.

for what it is worth. They are both very experience and very well respected VB specialists. I'm not sure Waner could do anymore for your child that Geronemus isn't already doing. I believe he uses the same lasers as Waner.

How long has it been since her last treatment? Is she more active now than before? I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr. G. I have a friend that takes her daughter to him for her pws. My son is treated by Dr. Hochman for his pws. I have met Dr. Waner and he is really nice. I personaly would sugest trying to talk with Dr. G about your concern with it darkening. I know that when Austin is sick or really cold his turns darker. I have also heard that Dr. G has a one of a kind V-Beam and he can be more aggressive with it. I hope that this helps.

Hi. My daughter has been a patient of Dr Geronemus since she was six weeks old.
He has accomplished for my daughter what I was told was not possible. She has had very good results. He is considered one of the best if not the best-especialy with infants.
I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Waner. Dr Geronemus has a one of a kind V Beam. That may have changed, but initially Dr G is the only Doctor with a "special" V Beam.
I can tell you that my daughters pws initially looks darker and then after 12 weeks or so, I see fading. She always appears to darken up before it appears lighter. Use pictures if you can to see if it really "looks" darker. It is so hard to tell.
Talk to Dr G about your concerns. If you want, make an appt. just to "talk" to him with no laser. Ask to see the pictures that he has taken before each treatment.
