Hank,

It went great! The sclero went well, Dr.Yakes was very optimistic. I was in some pain afterwards but nothing I couldn't deal with..I was just thrilled that he didn't have to do another arteriogram, becuase the one I had in Feb. was excellent, at least that doctor was good for something.
I have to go for an MRI in about 6-8 weeks and some physical therapy..
All in all a good experience..
Thanks for asking Hank! How are things on your end?

I am glad it went well.

I got another opinion last week and he wants to do some research and see me on the 13th to see about treatment options. So far no change in the progression of my eye from moving back to Nebraska, but it has only been two weeks today.

Good luck on the MRI, those things are a pain in the ___ I think. Last time I fell asleep it was actually comfortable. LOL

Talk to you soon.

Hank

Hank,

Hopefully that doc. will be able to find a way to treat your AVM...good luck in Nebraska, I have to admit Denver is beautiful, are you sad to leave? I have never been to Nebraska, and all that comes to mind is corn fields....

That is all that is in NE, besides cows, horses, and pig farms.

Hello,
My name is Stacie I just found this web site and I am very supprised to find all of the information that I have already. I have a VM on my neck, shoulder and back. Most of the doctors I have seen so for have also told me the pain is not typical. I beg to differ.
I am hopng to see Dr. Yakes soon. I have already sent him my MRI's. I am wondering what to expect after the sclaratherpy? Can anyone give me more details of how you felt afterwards?
Thank you

Hi Stacie,

Pain is not typical??? Okay, let him have a VM for awhile! Dr.Yakes is great, my parents also doubted my pain only because to them it looked okay other than the swelling. Dr.Yakes told them it was very painful, because of the blood pooling and causing clots.
After sclerotherapy, it was really painful but the nurses kept pushing morphine and another painkiller so pain wise it was bearable. I came out of the GA, fine, no problems which was nice. I did have alot of swelling it was crazy how bad the swelling was and still is swollen almost 4 weeks later, I hadmine done May 25th.
I didn't stay overnight in the hospital, due to my lack of insurance I think, Dr.Yakes was trying to make it as cheap as possible I stayed in the recovery for about 5 hours but I was so dopey it felt like 20 minutes.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions!
P.S. Dr.Yakes' office will get back to you pretty quick after reading the MRI, it took about a week in a half..a little longer than normal becuase Julie ( his nurse) was on vacation and she reads the MRI's.
Keep us updated on your progress!

Hi Stacie,

I emailed you personally since my 10 year old son has VMs in almost the exact same locations as you describe.

Definitely expect some major stiffness after sclerotherapy, if that is the road you will go!! There were definite pain and head-turning issues after sclerotherapy here....we had to go and have his desk turned in class due to range of motion. About 3 weeks after sclero, the range of motion had vastly improved though!!

Take care!

Jose
