Pulse Dye Laser Treatment

Does anyone have any comments on Pulse Dye Laser Treatments?

My 10month old daughter has a H over her right eye and into the forehead, it is regressing on its own pretty well but we are considering PDL treatment.

Hi Glm,

My name is Hank I am 22 and have Port Wine Stain/ Sturge Weber Syndrome (PWS/SWS).

I started Pulse Dye Laser treatment on my PWS 17 years ago. I have done about 125 to 150 laser treatments in a 14 years off and on.

Laser treatment works well on PWS. There are allot more kinds of treatment options for H's. I can not recall vary many PDL treatments. It really depends on the case of your daughters H. I know some people like steriods to stop the growth of H's but others go for removal from surgery.

Thought I would give my opinion on this, so I am not much help on this though.

Hi glm,
My daughter is now 5 yrs old. She has a Port Wine Stain on the right side of her face. Our family doctor recommened a dermatologist who specializes in laser treatments, when she was an infant. We also had her to the eye doctor a few times. Thankfully she is fine, it's just that the right side of her face is red.
We started treatments when she was 2 months old. It has faided quite a bit. She is still getting treatments,but we are glad we started when she was younger.

thank you both for the replies. i am trying to consider every alternative so you have been helpful. she is only 10mos now and we will be seeing her doctor in 2 weeks.

My son has a large segmental hemangioma on the side of his face and into the eyelid. He has had 8 laser treatments and we believe that it has been a huge success so far. It has helped keep his skin firm and we've avoided the "face lift" that some doctors predicted. Pulse dye works well on flat hemangiomas.

was the treatment safe for the eye? or how close did they get to the eye?

The eye has to be protected. When his laser was done on the lid (he was under g.a...which helps with movement problems) he had a special contact put into his eye to protect it from the laser. Some doctors use sheilds. It is important to protect the eye even if laser isn't "PLANNED" to be near the eye!!

I agree with Corinne. The eyes are number one priorty since lasers can destroy the vision in the eye.

When working on the eyes while awake they use the sheilds. They just have to use a numbing shot to use them. Of course when I was a kid they just used a spoon to cover my eyes when working really close to them.

If they treatment is not near or on the eye lid they use tanning glasses. I always hated those things. That is why I have never stepped foot into a tanning bed. LOL
Parents get to use the googles (look like welding googles) if they are in the room while having laser treatment while awake.
