Can a port wine stain cause physical pain?

Hi. This is my first post. I'm a 33-year-old female and I have a port wine stain birthmark on my left knee. Since I was a child, my left knee would get very achy - especially with cold or damp weather. In the past 10 years or so, I've had persistent achiness in my left knee and leg. My left leg "falls asleep" easily and, in the past few years, I've noticed my left foot does the same. Could any of this discomfort be caused by my port wine stain birthmark? Thanks for your input.

Yes, it very well could be from the pws. Have you had it evaluated by a vb specialist? There might be options to help you with the pain. Sorry I don't have more specific information. I do know that others suffer from pain associated with pws.

hi, i also have a pot wine birthmark all the way down my right leg, from hip to toes, for last 4 months, my leg also has been very aching, numb almost , from hip to back of knee, was also wondering if the birthmark could also cause pain like this, im now 39 years old, always had achy legs, when i was child thought was just (growing pains) but the older i get the worst it hurts, any help here also would be great, i made doctor appointment, but dont know what to tell them , other then it aches, thank you for your time, susan

Where are you located? It would probably be best if you were seen by a specialist. If you'd like to ask an expert, go here http://birthmark.org/experts.php If you ask Dr. Nelson, he can probably give you a good answer, which will help you discuss the problem with your physician.
