Default PWS questions!!

Hi! I'm 19 yrs. old and have a PWS covering my left hand and arm and the left part of my chest. I've never had any laser surgery because when I was about 6 yrs. old my parents looked into it and the specialist informed them that It didn't have great outcomes for those with darker skin complextions. I was wondering has that changed? and also I was wondering the chances of my PWS thickening and getting cobbles? My PWS is very flat but when I get extremely cold it has had a tendency to get thicker is this normal??!..Thank You!

Hi Shortyputput,

I am Hank 23 year old with faical PWS.

Yes, since you where six there has been a lot of changes in laser treatment. I have been doing laser treatment for a little over 18 years now and have used four different lasers.

The most common now is the V-Beam Pulse Dye Laser (PDL). If you go to the top of the page under resources and find a physican you can find a doctor in your area or driving distance from where you live. They can give you more info on what they use in their office.

Yes, PWS can grow, coble, or form bleps if not treated. What you are seeing is normal when it gets cold out side PWS birthmarks get darker. Same as if you are angry, working out in the gym or just out of the shower it can change from getting darker or lighter.
If you want to see what coble stones look like you can visit Geoff Ritchie's website www.geoffspws.com he is a friend of mine that has faical pws also but in a very agressive growth. You can see pictures of myself and read my story at my website www.hankspws.com. I know several people including myself had flat PWS until they where 21, 22 years of age when their PWS started to grow.

I strongly recommend getting an opinion on your PWS.
If you have any other questions please ask we are here for you or you can always email me personnally my email is in my profile.

Talk to you soon.

Hank
