Price for Laser Surgery??

Can anyone give me some ballpark figures for what it might cost to have surgery to remove a small port wine stain on my newborn? I'm living on the east coast of the US. The stain is on her upper lip and is about 1 inch long and 1/2 inch wide... I don't care what country you go your surgery in..I'm just curious as to what range of numbers I can expect...500$? 1000$? 2000$

Our doctor charges appx $2200.00 per visit for laser treatment, Our insurance company honors it at about $1400.00 from the rewrite of the claim as this doctor is in network. We have a $20 co-pay and are very fortunate.

1st treatment $3877.00 for Dr and $492.00 ANESTHESIOLOGY

2nd treatment $4541.00 for DR. and $492.00 ANESTHESIOLOGY

Not sure what the difference was that made the second more expensive. She just had her third and I should be getting that amount in the next week.

My daughter has to be put to sleep during surgery and it is my understanding that it would be cheaper if we did not put her to sleep. She has a PWS on her temple that is about 2 inches long and 2 inches wide.

Lisa - how did you get your insurance to pay for the treatment? My plan says this is cosmetic (just makes me mad).

Talk to a staff member of the doctor's office you go to. They might be able to use codes that are not "cosmetic" in nature. Also, it can often help with insurance if you doctor writes a letter of medical necessity. This letter should include information about how pws will worsen over time, thicken, etc. You have to really tailor the claim to prove this is within coverage necessity. Don't call it a birthmark...it is a vascular malformation or lesion, talk about any psychological concerns you might have. You have to pull out all the stops sometimes to get your way.

Dr Metry office wasn't able to help? I am not sure how she coded Aprils treatment but our insurance covered it. I wasn't expecting them to after reading our benefits booklet. Her office had offered to write a letter for me this last time when my insurance gave me a little bit of a hard time but I was able to clear it up over the phone.

Good luck with your claims appeal. Not sure what I could do but if there is something let me know.
