Question how long before hemangioma will grow

hi my son has a birthmark on his face it is flat deep red and has not changed insize or texture. he is nearly 6 weeks old. i have been told that it could be a H or a pws to keep it open. i think it is a pws can anyone tell me if it could still be a H and it could still start to grow? my gut tells me it would have started by now if it was, my daughter had one and it had grown and raised by now.

thank you.
based in Ireland and i think we may be behind the times with diagnosis

Can you share a photo? Not all h. will grow rapidly or raise. Has it darkened? Was it present at birth...how much has it changed since birth? You can also email Dr. Levitin for an expert's opinion.

thank you for your reply.
i havent a picture yet but will try and upload one soon. it was like a bruise on day one and remained the same shape but got darker until it is like a red strawberry colour. it looks like my daughters one before it raised but it is more a solid red. it blanches when i press it but has not gotten any bigger.
it is not very large but what concerns me is the waiting lists over here for laser treatment is considerable. if i wait for a diagnosis ( as suggested) until the child is one and it is a pws, he could be 2 or 3 before he is treated with lasers.

i just want to do what is right for him, i dont want to feel i didnt do my homework.

thank you again.

You shouldn't have to wait for a diagnosis. A hemangioma will change in color...but it might not grow or thicken much. I would encourage you to have the help of the experts to get the diagnosis so you can proceed with evaluation or treatment...at least you'll know what route you need or want to take once you have the diagnosis.
