Needing Guidance in Ohio

Our now three year old son R. Ezekiel has a hemongioma on his forehead. We have waited as advised by his dermatologist for it to go away before considering surgery. Well we have decided that it is time and have made contact with Dr. Waner in NY. We are worried about the medical expenses involved since it will be an out of network procedure. We're just wondering about how much we're looking into for this needed procedure so that we can plan.

have you looked into dr zieshchan at childrens in cincinnati? hes just was good as dr waner, and my daughter had laser and will have removal by him. he is the nicest most wonderful dr i have ever talked to. very knowlegable and concerned with the well being of my daughter. let me know if you need his contact info.

No I have not. I heard about Dr. Waner when I was 8 ms pregnant on TV not knowing my baby would have one too. The only doctor I have considered surgery with is him as of this point. I am opened to advise and would consider my options. Please give me the information on your doctor. I would really appreciate it very much =)

The cost depends greatly upon whether your son needs laser, plastic surgery, or both. If the hemangioma is fairly flat, you can probably go with just laser, and that should be considerably less expensive than plastic surgery. Depending upon the size and exact location, laser might be a 30 second in-office procedure. Plastic surgery will require GA.

Also, I don't know where you live, but there are other doctors that are very skilled in treating hemangiomas. Dr. Waner is great, and he has seen my youngest, but we traveled to CA for her two plastic surgeries. We are only two hours from NYC, but the other doctor was in-network. You should consider that there are some other great doctors that might be covered by your insurance.

a nice lady named julie will get you in touch with dr zieschan. at least have a consultation with him. hes wonderful and like dr waner, is an expert on hemangiomas. he was referred to me by my daughters hematologist. i wouldnt trust anyone but the best with my daughters arm. plus hes closer, and i bet that your insurance would be more willing to pay. julie's email is Julie.Rogers@cchmc.org

Wow, thank you so much for all your help. I feel so great that I'm finally talking to parents in the same boat. I'm still doing more research on this web and finding alot of helpful resources that I did not know where out there. We have waited in prayer that God would help us through this season and never wanted to visit another website because of the sad pictures we saw until we realized that it's not going away and I feel the support is what we need.

have you checked out the resource tab on this site? its amazing! when we thought we were going to have to go to ny to get treatment (this was before we found the dr in ohio) i didnt know how were were going to afford the flights! then i saw that there is a company that even gives free flights to children in need of medical assistance! amazing! there is another site that might help you out too. is called www.novanews.org check them out.

Hi Yazmin. My daughter was treated in NY. I know you can actually contact Sonya, his billing coordinator - and find out - based on your insurance what type of expense you are looking at so you can be prepared. I am more than happy to help you in any way I can - and with additional resources.
