Prevent Swelling with Microcystic Sclerotherapy
My 5 yr. old daughter has lymphatic malformation on her neck. Dr. William Shiels of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH has given sclerotherapy to the microcysts and now there is no swelling and almost no cysts are detected by ultrasound.
A few years ago, he found clusters of microcysts by ultrasound. While she was sedated, he drained the tiny cysts with a needle and injected an alcohol solution into each cyst. This solution kills each microcyst and the even smaller microscopic cysts around it. She has had 3 treatments of several injections each. A few cysts were the larger macrocysts and were drained by catheter. Each procedure was very easy and seemed to be painless by the next day. I urge anyone with microcysts to have this procedure done (which leaves almost no scars except perhaps the size of a freckle) and avoid surgery with its risk of complications and scars.
