Sudden Rapid Growth of H?

Almost overnight, my daughter's H has started rapidly growing, with the skin under the H swelling (it looks bruised but I am sure it is because of the blood vessels feeding it). The swelling part is alarming us, along with the fact that it was so sudden of a change and we took her to see her family doctor today who is now referring us to a dermatologist (however, the wait might be very long). Has anyone ever experienced such very sudden, rapid growth? What does this mean? We're very worried!

Hi, I suggest you ask your family doctor to refer you to dermotologist @ HSC directly. When the referral letter is faxed over to the HSC's dermotology clinic, you can call the clinic and ask for an immediate attention. I did that and it only took me 2 days to meet the dr. The HSC is using propanolol to treat infant's H.

I just responded to you on another thread but after reading what you posted here, I am thinking I might be making a mistake just seeing a dermatologist in the area first. That was a quick referral and I also have read good results on here with propanolol! Thanks, I had no idea HSC was using this treatment

How old was your baby when H started growing rapidly? The reason why I ask is because my son has a large segmental H on his eyelid and forehead and a couple on his cheek and one by his lip. So far they have stayed flat (he is almost 11 weeks old). His doctors think it will stay flat.

This looks very similar to Valentina's hemangioma. I don't know if you have had any contact with Marina, her mother, but you should try to connect with her. Bella's started really growing fast around one month of age. She started on steroids at 5 or 6 weeks of age.

My son Nicholas' h. looked very similar, but grew rapidly at 2-6 weeks... he was put on oral steroids and we then started laser at about 4.5 months old.

Our first priority was his eye as the h. was in is upper inner eye lid and it was causing drooping. Our second concern was the damage the h. was doing to the skin, and skull as it the h. became very thick. Laser in my opinion kept his skin firm and reduced the red. Another issue was the telangiectasia vessels (your daughter appears to have this as well) were quite thick and there were a lot of them. His doctor actually traced each vessel with a diode laser to destroy them. We could not be happier with the results. If you would like to know more, feel free to email me

megangood-my daughter's grew rapidly from about two months old and is still growing now (she is 10 months old), although the quickest rate of growth has been only lately (around 9 months) when it seems to have rapidly progressed and is bulging out. I was told by my doc when she was around two months old that it would remain flat and I was so hopeful but now my doc can see she was wrong and we've been given a referral. I would suggest you may want to get a referral sooner so that it is in place in case you need it. I should have done this much sooner.
