Default 2 year old with hem on nose

Hello All,

We came to the site shortly after Asher was born. His birthmark on his nose cropped up at about 6 weeks of age.

He turned 2 recently. I have three pictures, one when he was 2 months old, then 18 months, then almost 2.

We tried five lasers, four with pulse dye, and the last was YAG. (I *think*.) These treatments were spaced a few weeks, I think 6, apart.

NO change was noted at all. The birthmark looks exactly the same after all thsoe treatments.

I didnt go back for the 6th which was supposed to be last month. Not sure when or whether we will do anything about it.

its my understanding that the birthmark is too thick, its raised, basically a mixture of deep and superficial components. The width is only about 2 centimeters, and its raised by maybe a half a centimeter. its still very dark in color. Not as BRIGHT red as it used to be.

I probably will take him to a different doctor in 6 months or a year. I pray some new treatment comes out.

My daughter's h is really similiar but on top of her nose. She had six pulse dye lasers starting at 6 months & spaced a month apart. It is a lot lighter, more of a light purple and has gone down in size a little. We are going to let nature take its course now and when she is three we will consider to surgically removing it.

He is ADORABLE!

You may want to share these photos with our "ask the expert" panel. If you go to the main page of this website you can email the docs thru the site. Dr. Nelson would be the first person to ask for an opinion from. It could be that your past doc was a bit too conservative with the settings, or the h. just isn't responding to the type of laser. At age 2, you should start to see involution and waiting isn't going to cause any damage at this point.
