Any suggestions for a concerned mother...

My son is going to be 4 yrs old in a few weeks. He has an AVM on the right side of his face starting from the eye to the lip. When he was born I and the doctors thought it was a bruise but after various doctor visits from eye doctors to dermatologists it is a consensus that he has an AVM. My son is starting school soon and as we all know, children can be cruel. I would love any advice or suggestions for treatment. We live in the Baltimore area and frequent John's Hopkins. Thanks!

I would recommend contacting Dr. Berenstein, Fay and Waner (they work as a team) to determine treatment options.

With school and other kids: my advice is to help your child educate other students. Young kids typically react out of fear of the unknown...can come out as mean... once armed with the information they are more supportive to their classmates.. even better then most adults. I would encourage you to talk with the teacher and make it a special thing your son can educate his class about. He can answer questions...and most popular question is "does it hurt"...
