Hi New Person here

Hi Everyone,

I was recommended to this site from a friend whose DD has Hemangioma and I've talked with her about my DS's possible CMTC. My son is almost 18 mos and since birth I've noticed the splotchy, marbled appearance on his skin. His complexion is very fair (like my husband, where mine is olive) so I just thought it was b/c of that.

My SIL also has very fair, skin similar to my son with the occasional splotches, esp when she's cold. She ALSO had atrophy in one leg as a child, spent time with the March of Dimes, etc. I'll be quizzing her more about it this weekend...

This all got me thinking, Henry- my son- was average (50% at birth for height and weight with a larger head circumference 70%). Now he's dropped off the chart in height (<5%) and very low for weight (10-15%) but his head is still 85%. (DH and I are both very AVERAGE sized. His spotchiness is on both legs, very evenly distributed and very, very light on his arms. None on his chest/back trunk.

His vision is fine, hearing selective (as most 18mos are!), verbal skills good. He's active, physical, happy, playful, loving and connected.

Am I over thinking this? Am I a hypochondraic? Is it possible he does have CMTC? We go for his 18 mo Ckup in 2 weeks and I want to be prepared w/ questions.

Can I PIP here? Or attach a link similar to his symptoms?

Sara,
I am a parent with a child with CMTC. Do you have a picture you could post? It may help people give you a better idea.

Welcome - I am always looking for more parents here that are experiencing CMTC! Finding someone else helps you to feel that you are not alone in the world.

Here's a pic from when he was about a month or so old, notice his right arm? Sorry it's so blurry, I'll try to take a more recent one tonight.

It has faded a bit since he was born, but I still see it. What do you think?

Sara,
Your child's coloring doesn't look like CMTC to me but remember I am not an expert. My daughter's coloring is always present but does get lighter or darker depending on the temperature. Your child's looks more like cutis marmorata (rather than CMTC) which is common in infants. Becca was initially diagnosed with cutis marmorata. She was correctly diagnosed by a pediatric dermatologist. It would be great if you could post another picture that is more recent.

Hey Sara! That is how Madeline's is as well. She has some splotchy marks on the bottom of her left leg that I am concerned about. I am taking her to a derm but I am not convinced it is CMTC fully. Has he seen a dermatologist?

Hmm, I guess I though they were one in the same, just different values, if you will. Please keep in mind I am UBER new to this whole thing.... I'll still try to take another pic. Can you tell me how they differ in looks, etc? Thanks for all your info already!

Hi Katie, I'm taking him to the Pedi in a couple weeks for his 18 MO ckup, and talk to his Pedi about it. See what he thinks about getting a referral to a specialist, if needed. I'll keep you posted! XOXO

Cutis maramorata is vein look that most babies get to so degree. It is usually on hands and arms, and even legs. It is really common and gets better and less frequent with age. CMTC on the other had is always present (day or night, warm or cold) and can look more like patches. Becca's is sometimes red and a little splotchy when she is warm but much less noticeable. Most of the time it is more of a purple to very dark purple in large patches (not just a vein pattern). At other times she has a very deep purple vein pattern (where as on the picture of your child it looks like blue veins that are just more noticeable than an adult because of immature skin). Cutis marmorata and CMTC are very different. Please remember I am not an expert but rather a mom who has learned a lot about this in the past 6 months.

Looking at the picture again I can see that there seems to be a line about midway around the arm. Is there kind of a line where it stops? That would make me be more likely to think it may be CMTC. Becca's does at time get an appearance somewhat similar.

yes, I would have him evaluated by a derm. and get a second opinion from the ask the expert CMTC specialist.
