Default Benefits of laser tx to compound hemangioma?

My daughter (7 weeks) was diagnosed today with a compound hemangioma between her eyes. At this point the hemangioma seems to be relatively small, however there is a noticeable bump in addition to the red discoloration. She received her first laser treatment today and her MD is optimistic that because treatment is early, the laser may help slow the growth of both aspects of the hemangioma. We're scheduled to repeat the treatment in 3 weeks. I was under the impression laser was only effective on superficial hemangiomas. Has anyone also seen benefit to the deeply affected tissue from laser treatment? Thanks.

I am not sure. My daughter has a compound hemangioma on the top of her head and we are having it removed completely. Our doc never mentioned laser.

My daughter has a compound h on her head as well. We had laser done around 8 weeks and it did help with the superficial part but unfortunetly not the deep part. It continued to grow and raise. I think if we would of lasered when it was only the red flat dots that we noticed at 4 weeks then it would of maybe stopped the growth but it was too late. However, I was told by a doctor that laser doesn't always stop the ability of a compound h from forming even when done at its flat stage so who knows...we also did 2 steroid injections which I believe helped slow the growth down. She is now 4 months. I'm not sure if its still growing but if it is its not at the rate that it was initially.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Laser typically only helps with the superficial part of the h.; I would recommend consulting on your options with on of the ask the experts on the front page

Default Laser on nose

Hi,

My daughter has had six lasers about a month apart since she was 8 weeks old. She has a nasal tip h. You can read the post on it here http://174.120.2.174/board/showthread.php?t=3666

The laser quickly got rid of the superficial h, and we feel has been the reason that the deeper h has not gotten any larger. It hasn't made it go away, but it certainly has not gotten any bigger.

Good luck.

Pat
