My daughter's hemangioma
Hello everyone. I'll start by saying I'm very happy I found this community. My daughter is 11 weeks old and has a hemangioma on the inside of her lower lip, with a bit of red showing through on the outside. Two weeks ago, we were admitted overnight at the children's hospital at UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA. This is about a 2 hour drive from us. She was started on .9 ml of propranolol 3 times a day. Overnight, I noticed the skin wasn't as tight or as red. Admittedly, it's been rough adjusting to giving my baby medicine. They don't believe it's related, but she throws up much more often now and cries when we administer the propranolol. But I know it's what's best, considering it's location and how fast it was growing! If there is any of it left after treatment, which we expect to be weaned off of by age 12-15 months, there will be the option of lazer treatment and/or plastic surgery once she reaches school age. Personally, I have no desire to go this route unless she comes to me and wants to do something about it.
Overall I am so blessed and relieved to have access to such great doctors. The doctor she sees is part of a vascular anomalies clinic with a plastics division. And, it's all covered by her insurance. I have no doubt that the specialists in Nyc and such, but we could never afford out of pocket treatment, let along the travel!
Well thanks for listening to our story! I attempted a photo but failed. Maybe next time!
