Propranolol- Hospitalization? Side Effects?

Hi, my baby daughter has a couple of hemangiomas and after seeing several specialists we have decided to start treatment with Propranolol. I am wondering did anyone take this medicine WITHOUT being hospitalized at first?

One doctor wants our baby to be admitted to the hospital for observation for a few days while starting the medicine, and another doctor just gave us a prescription and says no hospitalization or follow-up testing is needed (she was already cleared by a cardiologist). She is 15 weeks old but only 7 weeks past her due date (she was born 2 months early).

We are also wondering how rare are the adverse side effects such as bradycardia and hypoglycemia- did anyone have such problems while on Propranolol?

Hi, my son was four months old when he went under observation in the hospital for propronolol, although I was completely nervous everything went fine. His hemangioma wasn't huge, but it was above his eye and could've affected his vision. During our hospital stay when they upped the final dose to the full 1.2 ml, he did have a very quick moment of borderline bradycardia, I wasn't comfortable with that dosage after that so they knocked it back down to .9 ml and he's been fine. He's been on it a whole month and his hemangioma is almost gone The results are amazing.

Hi, My daughter was prescribed propranolol at 8 weeks old after being cleared by a cardiologist without ever being monitored in a hospital. She is almost 8 months old and we have not had any side effects. Just great results! Good luck!!

We did a 2 night stay at Johns Hopkins. Everything was fine. The only side effects my son has are cold hands and feet. His multiple hemangiomas have dramatically changed as well. Definitley take monthly photos to see how dramatic the results are. It truley is amazing!

we were told that the reason for the hospital stay was just to observe since this medication can cause very low blood pressure. my daughter has now been taking this medication since January and we have had no problems. good luck.
