Surgery is booked!

It's been alomst 3 yrs of waiting and asking. Yesterday at my son's appointment the Doctors finally said YES to surgery to remove the hemangioma from his forehead...June 15 is the big day! Excited and nervous all at the same time. Any tips on how to prepare child (& parents) for the big day?

Wow, exciting! We are considering surgery too but not as far along as you. Where will surgery be? Who is yr dr?

good luck! For me the biggest shock was seeing my child after surgery. I was so used to her hemangioma being there you know? I lost it when I saw her come out of surgery LOL.

As for your son, just make it like a "fun" day. I wouldn't go into too much detail.

Dvama, his surgery will be done in London Ontario at Victoria Hospital by Dr. Yazdani. I'll be sure to post pics before & after the surgery.

Good luck! My daughter had surgery 2 years ago. I was very nervous but it worked out great. As for preparing your son, I think it all depends on how old he is. My daughter was 5 and they suggested that we not really talk about it with her too much in advance. A couple days before we just explained a little of what would happen and that they would give her a special mask that would make her fall asleep. I was able to go right into the OR with her and stay with her until she fell asleep, so maybe you can ask if that is an option. She healed wonderfully....kids are so resilient! The only other thing is to try to keep him healthy in the week's leading up to the surgery (if it's possible). My daughter's surgery got cancelled a few times due to colds. Good luck with everything! Can't wait to see the pictures!

Something that I never thought of that someone told me was a button up shirt for after the surgery, or something with a lose neckline.
