Default Dermatologist vs Cosmetic Surgeon for PWS Laser Treatment

Greetings,

My wife and I have had several consultations with dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons regarding laser treatment for her port wine stain birthmark. One dermatologist said he performs the procedures himself. Another said he or his assistant could do it. Another cosmetic surgeon said he or his physician assistant might do the procedure. Given the diagnosis is already determined and the same for each, is the procedure (PDL with vstar or vbeam) best performed by a physician or can it be done by an experienced assistant? And is there any real difference in having it performed or supervised by a dermatologist vs a cosmetic surgeon? I imagine the office of the dermatologist might have more patients seeking PDL treatment of PWS than the office of a cosmetic surgeon, but that also depends on the success and size of the practice...

Your advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Chi
