Ask the Doctor's Expert
Dr. Edwin F. Williams III
 Dr.
Edwin F. Williams III attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York
where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982. He began medical
school at the State University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 1986.
From 1986 to 1987 Dr. Williams completed his graduate internship in Surgery
at SUNY Health Sciences Center in Syracuse, New York.
Following this, he completed his residency training in Otolaryngology
– Head and Neck from 1987 – 1991. During his head and neck
surgical training in Syracuse, Dr. Williams developed a strong interest
in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck. With a further desire
for training in this area, he pursued a fellowship through the American
Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstruction Surgery at the University
of Illinois in Chicago from 1991 – 1992. During this time of training,
his entire experience consisted of cosmetic and reconstruction surgery
of the nose, eyes, face and neck.
Upon returning to the Northeast and beginning his practice in Albany,
New York, Dr. Williams has continued to be enthusiastically involved
in teaching facial plastic and reconstruction surgery to the medical
residents of the Albany Medical Center and is chief of the section of
Facial Plastic Reconstruction Surgery at Albany Medical Center where
he holds an academic appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor in
the division of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Williams is certified by the American Board of Facial Reconstructive
Surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology and he is a fellow of
the American College of Surgeons. He is a diplomat of the National Board
of Medical Examiners and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor
Society. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngology
– Head and Neck Surgery. With an active involvement in continuing
medical education, Dr. Williams has qualified for the American Medical
Associations Physician Recognition Award.
Dr. Williams is one of the original founding members of the vascular
birthmark foundation and is currently on the medical advisory board
for the foundation. He has lectured extensively on the national and
international level with an aesthetic approach to Port Wine Stains and
Hemangiomas. Dr. Williams has published numerous articles as well as
chapters in textbooks in the area of aesthetic facial surgery. He is
especially involved in teaching other facial plastic surgeons throughout
the country and abroad on the surgical techniques used for an aesthetic
improvement with disfiguring Facial Hemangiomas and Port Wine Stains.

Nevus Clinic (Non-Vascular Birthmarks) Starts at Mass. General Hospital
Dr. Martin Mihm and his team will be seeing patients with congenital nevus (giant
hairy, moles, pigmented lesions, etc.) and all other non-vascular birthmarks
(Mongolian spots, Spitz Nevus, etc.) in addition to Vascular Birthmarks, at
the Saturday clinics at the Mass. General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Mihm is combining
the Vascular Birthmarks Clinic with the Congenital Nevus clinic to form the
first combined vascular and non-vascular birthmarks clinic. Linda Shannon will
be the clinic coordinator at these combined clinics. This clinic is for adults
