Ask the Surgeon
Dr.
Gregory Levitin graduated summa cum laude from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School
of Medicine. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck
Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is board
certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and a member of several
professional organizations, including Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology
– Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Medical Association.
Upon completing his residency, Dr. Levitin was recruited by Dr.
Milton Waner, a leading specialist in vascular birthmarks, to work
alongside him in his New York City practice. The two physicians
first met when Dr. Waner began caring for one of Dr. Levitin's twin
daughters, Ruby, who was born with a large hemangioma on her upper
lip. "My wife and I shared the frustration of many parents,
of having an infant with a rapidly growing birthmark that our doctors
weren't comfortable managing. After being told to 'watch and wait,'
we were blessed to find Dr. Waner, who completed the surgical reconstruction
of her lip. Now, she'll never have to know how different things
might have been."
Dr. Levitin now specializes in caring for children and adults in
the diagnosis, management, and medical and surgical treatment of
hemangiomas, venous malformations, port wine stains, and other vascular
malformations. "As an Otolaryngologist, I feel fortunate to
have trained as a surgeon in a specialty that treats children with
vascular birthmarks. It is a unique privilege to work in collaboration
with Dr. Waner and exciting for me personally to be able to dedicate
myself to patients with birthmarks like the one that affected my
own child."
Dr. Levitin is available to provide expertise about all types of
vascular birthmarks.
