Our international family conference is the only one of its kind in the world. We offer lectures from the top experts in the field on the latest in research and treatment options on Saturday morning, followed by an afternoon of individual clinic appointments with our multidisciplinary team of expert specialists who provide an informal diagnosis and treatment plan to every patient.
Our conference serves individuals with any type of vascular birthmark, anomaly or syndrome including hemangiomas, port-wine stain birthmarks, lymphatic malformations, arteriovenous malformations, venous malformations, KTS, PHACES, CLOVES, CMTC, and Sturge-Weber Syndrome, among all others. We turn no family with a vascular birthmark away.
We are thankful that Dr. Roy G. Geronemus of the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York will again offer FREE LASER TREATMENT the day before the conference, on Friday, September 25th, to the first 50 eligible families to register.
Thanks to our sponsors, we will also grant a FREE HOTEL ROOM at the beautiful Shelburne Affinia Hotel in New York City for Friday, September 25th, to the first 50 eligible families to register.
We also plan to offer dental and orthodontic exams for those qualified, insurance support, psychotherapy support groups, birthmark support networking opportunities, and professional make-up consultations, as well as a professional daycare service, breakfast, and lunch for your whole family.
Your $100 all-inclusive registration fee ($25 for those requesting a fee waiver) includes all of our conference and clinic services, including free laser therapy and the hotel room for qualified individuals, and admission for your entire family.
At our 2018 International family conference in New York, we welcomed over 300 people, provided over one hundred individual clinic appointments, granted over 75 free hotel rooms, and made possible at least 42 free laser treatments. Our goal is to make this years’ event our most impactful yet.
Please review the information below, and our Registration Planning Checklist, for complete details about the event and don’t hesitate to contact us at email@example.com with absolutely any questions. Our VBF Family looks forward to welcoming you this September!Free laser treatments and free hotel rooms fill up fast and are subject to availability and eligibility, so please register early to begin the screening process and to secure your spot today.
The Conference / Clinic is one full day, from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, on Saturday, September 26 at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY, which includes the conference lectures in the morning and a clinic with world-renowned vascular birthmark experts in the afternoon. Free laser treatments and dental exams will be offered by appointment only on Friday, September 25, the day before the conference itself. Browse the sections below for complete details about all that our international family conference has to offer.
Registration will begin at 7:30 am on Saturday, 9/26 at the Lenox Hill Hospital located on the upper east side of Manhattan in New York, New York. Upon check-in, you will receive a clinic folder with all of your individually scheduled appointments for the afternoon with our teams of specialists, which are based on the preferences you submit in your registration form. Our Clinic Coordinator, Corinne Barinaga, will be on hand all day to review and/or make any changes needed to your clinic schedule so that we can ensure you get the most out of our clinical services. We will also have a stroller-check available and volunteers on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Free continental breakfast will be provided for your entire family after you check-in at the conference. We will have food options available to accommodate all dietary restrictions, which you can indicate on your registration form. Arrive early to enjoy breakfast with all of the other individuals and families in attendance, as well as our team of volunteers and medical professionals. This is a great opportunity to meet others and ask any questions you may have.
Professional daycare will be provided to all children attending, including siblings and children, though children are always welcome at the lectures, as well. Our secure daycare will be located just upstairs in the hospital from the conference lecture rooms, so you can feel free to check in or visit at any time. In addition to our professional, certified daycare providers, many of our longtime VBF volunteers, including teachers and nurses, will be on hand to assist and we hope that our therapy dogs will be able to join the children again this year. Daycare will conclude after the conference lectures so that the children can join you for lunch and the afternoon clinic. You can indicate on your registration form whether you require daycare for anyone in your party, and a secure check-in/out system will be in place. Make sure to send your child with any necessary items, including pacifiers, bottles, and anything else you think might make their stay in daycare more enjoyable. Toys, games, and snacks will be provided to all the children. This is a great opportunity for children to meet others with birthmarks like theirs, some for the very first time.
Conference lectures will begin at 8:30 am, after check-in, breakfast, and daycare drop-off. Some of the top vascular birthmark medical specialists in the world donate their time to provide their expertise at our conference and clinic. Lectures are tailored towards families, not medical providers. They include presentations concerning hemangiomas, port wine stains, vascular malformations, venous malformations, lymphatic malformations, Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome, and Sturge Weber Syndrome, among all other vascular birthmark types and associated syndromes. There will be multiple lectures happening in different rooms throughout the hospital, so you will be able to move from room to room to hear the lectures that interest you and pertain to your birthmark, anomaly or syndrome.
A final itinerary will be provided closer to the event so you can plan which lectures you’d like to attend, and our volunteers will be on hand every step of the way to provide recommendations and directions. While we cannot provide the lecture presentation files themselves, due to propriety reasons, we will have volunteer note-takers on hand to take notes during each lecture, and we will send those notes after the conference to all registrants. The lectures will conclude with a brief Q&A in each room, though you will get a chance to meet individually with our teams of specialists to ask your specific questions during the afternoon clinic.
You can check out our 2018 Conference Itinerary for a sample itinerary, including talk titles and topics, as well as a listing of faculty. Our 2020 Conference Itinerary will be released once finalized.
After the lecture Q&A, those with children in daycare will pick them up and join the others for a free boxed lunch for every member of your family. There will be sandwich options available to accommodate all dietary restrictions, which you can indicate on your registration form. You can join us for lunch in the conference lecture room for a Lunch & Learn presentation from Scott Cupples on our VBF Global Ambassador Program. If your first clinic appointment is not until later in the afternoon, you are free to take your lunch and explore the upper east side of Manhattan until your clinic time, just be sure you’re back at least 30-45 minutes before your first scheduled clinic to check-in, otherwise, you could miss your spot.
After lunch, the clinics will be held from 1-6 pm, just upstairs in the hospital for your convenience. Our multidisciplinary teams of specialists will see each and every patient by appointments that are made by Dr. Linda Rozell-Shannon, Ph.D. our President / Founder who has over 25 years of experience networking children and adults with vascular birthmarks into treatment. Rest assured that Dr. Linda and our Patient Advocacy team will review each and every file to ensure that you are seen by all the relevant teams, which are categorized by birthmark type, anomaly or syndrome. You will receive your full clinic schedule upon check-in on the morning of the conference and can ask any questions/request any changes upon check-in if any are needed.
In addition to our multi-disciplinary team of doctors, our afternoon clinic will also include psychotherapy and insurance support groups, as well as professional make-up consultations for those with birthmarks. We also hope to again offer orthodontic exams and will provide more information on availability as the event approaches. Please arrive at least 30 -45 minutes prior to each of your scheduled clinic appointments to check-in.
New this year in New York will be our Birthmark Support Network, which will be open all day throughout the event to enable you to connect informally with our team of individuals with vascular birthmarks, parents, and medical professionals. We have big plans for this new support service and look forward to making this available as a way for you to share your story and make lasting connections with others.
