Hi! I’m Lan. I’m born and raised a Vermonter. My parents are immigrants from 2 different Asian countries (South Korea and Vietnam), and I grew up in rural Vermont. My intersectional identities of identifying as an Asian female growing up with a large facial difference (Port-Wine Stain birthmark) in a rural community felt ostracizing at times. I’ve had 4 facial reconstructive surgeries and 36 laser treatments (and counting).
I’m a mama of two, owner of my aromatherapy business Simply Organic Body Wellness, and a full-time public school teacher. Most recently, I was asked to co-create the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) task force for my school district. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and people who have facial differences like me fall under that umbrella, so I am passionate about my work.
As I continue to learn, grow, and work on myself because to me, it’s personal. I am becoming more confident with each opportunity to spread awareness, kindness, and advocate for those who feel unheard or under represented.
