question about venous malformation?
Has anyone ever noticed that their venous malformation got extremely lighter and less thick?
My daughter kandaces was a purple-to-dark blue almost black it looked dead almost(because of the color) and kinda thick the last couple of days I have noticed its pink and looks more normal it still gets thick and the darkest its gotten is more red/light purple thats when she crys. Its her whole left ear and behind on her neck(its noticably gotten lighter also) her ear has gotten more defined because the thickening has gone down. Its really pretty now (because its pink). I thought I was crazy or just hoping it was gone so much i kinda immagined it, but I have asked my husband and the rest of our family and they all agreed with me that it looks so much better.
any information or help would be appreciated.
Thanks Tamara

Re: question about venous malformation?
If it is reducing in size, it almost sounds more like a deep hemangioma instead of a vm. I'm just learning about this stuff though, so I may be way off base. Either way, I'm glad that it is looking smaller and a more "normal" color!

Re: question about venous malformation?

Linda Shannon would like to have you email her at
(put in the subject line...Corinne told me to email you about "vm lightening")
She would like to know the following asap

a picture of the ear at birth, before this change and now. Has it been treated? Is she currently on antibiotics for an ear or other infection? Has she just finished antibiotics?

Re: question about venous malformation?
Tamara, I need to see pictures of this. I"m not sure it is a venous malformation with this behavior. Venous malformations only get darker and larger, never smaller and lighter. Has she been on antibiotics recently? If yes, then this suggests a lymphatic component. Can you send me pictures at my email at
