laser or surgery
how is it decided to do the laser or the surgery? is it based on location, size both? something else maybe? is laser done several times before it is gone completly?

Where is the hemangioma? My daughter had one on her left eyelid and ORAL steroids worked 100%!

It is located on her left eye, bottom outside corner. It is more swollen up by the eye and flat down on her cheek (a little).

Laser is usually used for the superficial, red portion, while surgery would be needed if it has a deep component. My youngest had/has a hemangioma on the right cheek, just below the eye. She was on oral steroids for 3.5 months, had a steroid injection, then had plastic surgery at 11 months and 2 years, 4 months. She still needs some laser.

If you would like, I could email some photos - don't know if your child's case might be similar. Or maybe I can work on getting my photos small enough to post here, as I see a few cases of hemangiomas under the eye recently.

Okay, compressed some photos. Here are two at six months old, about three weeks after weaning off of oral steroids. She had an injection about six weeks later. In the top view, you can also see the hemangioma on the head.

There are also photos four months after her first surgery, and ten months after the second surgery. Photos are a little blurry due to compression, but hope it gives an idea of a hemangioma under the eye, before and after surgery.

Thank u so much! This gives a wonderful outlook on what may come. Our daughters location is the same. The only differnce is size and the eye. I will try to get some pics on here of her.

Here is a picture of my daughter. Her H has greyed on her cheek but is still red and puffy near the eye.

Based on the picture you posted of Rameen...I would encourage you to contact a specialist that offers laser tx. If you have questions about laser, I would be happy to help, Dr. Nelson on ask the expert is also a great resource. In my opinion, based on how flat your daughter's h. is...laser might be a good option. If you would like to see results of my son's laser txs. please go to the vascular birthmark support group (msn) and go to page 22 Nicholas segmental hemanigoma. If you have any questions please let me know. Originally my son's doctors thought he would need facial reconstruction surgery ("face lift")....he would have a large scar along his jawline they told me. We opted to give laser a try first and we are pleased with the results...and the reconstructive surgery did not have to take place. No scar.
