My son was born with a PWS on his cheek and temple he is 4 weeks old and is undergoing his first laser treatment with Dr. Nelson tomorrow. I am just looking for support on this web site. I now this is the best thing for my son but it hurts me so much to have to expose him to all of this. ANy words of encouragement and or advice is appreciated.

Back from our day
It was a really rough day. When he brought him back to me he was horribly upset. I felt so bad for my little one. The discoloration of his skin was nothing compared to his cries. I know it is for the best. He has slept most of the day still upset but nothing like before. I know each day it will get better but man oh man this sucks! Lisa the nurse said that it looked promising and they think he is going to respond really well to treatment so we go back in 4 weeks. Positive thoughts that is what I have to keep telling myself. Thank you sop much for your response it really helped to see it when I got home

So sorry your little one is having a tough time. We all go through this tough times and it is harder to deal with when we know we made the decision to put them through the pain. We are just making the decisions that we feel are in our kid's best interest but emotionally it doesn't make it easier. Hang in ther and hopefully the next treatment will go a little easier. Take care.

thank you
Thank you for your response it really helps. This is really hard and I am sure I am making the best choices for my son but it hurts my heart to see him in pain. Thank you again and I pray it gets easier

hang in there and just try to focus on the benefits of the laser. Its harder on you than on him. He will cry for one day while you may cry for a week every time LOL

I have also cried over the pain and unpleasantness of what the treatments seem to inflict on my son. I felt much better after talking with and reading what people who have had the treatment feel. Since my son is still young, he can not tell me what he is feeling. A kind boy in the waiting room with us before one procedure told me the worst part for him was the smell of the anesthesia before he goes to sleep. If that is the worst of it, I can accept that. He also told me that post op, his skin felt a little tight much like a mild sunburn. This also brought me comfort. Good luck with your child's treatments. They do get easier.

You know, that was really nice of that kid in the waiting room. I hope his parents are proud. Isn't it funny how you can really help someone without thinking of the effects your words might have.

That was pretty cool of him.

Thank you so much for your responses they really help. That little boy in the waiting room is a champ! Thank you for sharing his perspective it really helps. Once again thank you all in this process. It has been about 6 days and the blackness is all gone and now it is just a purply color. It didn't really scab and we had no blisters thank the Lord. It helps to see the effects of the laser fade although I am not looking forward to doing it again next month. I thank you for letting me know it gets easier and the sharing of your stories.
