Propranolol for 4 mo old
My son was born with the hemangioma and the derm & plastic surgeon said it has to get smaller in size (approx. 6-7 cm in diameter) before they will remove it. Since birth it's flattened out and not so hard & red. My husband and I were opposed to using Propranolol since my son's type of hemangioma does not respond to this medicine. Anyway, I just want to know other people opinions, concerns, experience in regards to Propranolol. FYI My son also has a minor cleft palate that requires an operation to fix so I just want to minimize the amount of surgery, medicine, hospital stay, etc. he is going to be exposed to.

Thank you - Rebecca

I was concerned as well. In addition to my daughter's hemangioma she also has a tethered spinal cord and bladder exstrophy, so she will be having several surgeries and is also on amoxicillin prophylaxis to prevent UTIs. We didn't have an option, it had to be treated because of it's location and size, but having her on the medicine has been easy. She hasn't had any side effects and the hemangioma is shrinking quickly. I wouldn't be apprehensive about it, I haven't found it to be a big deal at all, and it is very common now!

She is four months on tuesday and has been on it since she was two months. She takes .8ml three times a day (but we will probably increase it this week at her derm appt because she has gained weight).
