Hi! When my daughter was about 10 weeks old her specialist put her on oral steroids..that was what they did a lot then (this was 6 years ago) but now they have different drugs like propanolol that they use as well that have less side effects I think. She had an ulceration on her lip at that point that was causing her a lot of pain so they were fairly aggressive in her treatment at that point. The meds worked really well to keep the growth from getting out of control. For us I really think it saved her lip line.

After that point we waited it out. We watched it slowly fade over the course of a few years (we saw a big change when she was 1-2 years old.) Then when she was 5 she had surgery to correct the scar from her ulceration and make her lip more even on both sides. Then when she was 6 she had laser to get rid of the little bit left above her lip. I think the early intervention with the meds was key for her and prevented more serious surgery.

Here's an album you can look at. Please remember that every hemangioma is different and that your daughter's may grow fast or not? Only time will tell. My other daughter has one on her hand and it was huge! It totally went away on its it can happen. 18fd285c7

I have to say I remember really clearly being at your exact stage. The wondering and not knowing is so, so hard. I am a worrier and I was so extremely nervous and anxious about the whole thing. So please know you are not alone. The best thing to do is learn is much as you can, ask lots of questions and have a specialist observe and give you their thoughts from an early age. Then you can learn about your options and decide what seems best for your daughter. So try to take it one day at a time. Once we knew our plan of action, I felt much better.

Please keep in touch. Let me know if I can help in any way!
