Default New Diagnosis for my 3yr old- venous Malformation

We have been told repeated times that my daughter had a hemangioma on her right index finger at the first knuckle. Each visit we were told, don't worry it will go away give it time. But it continues to grow. So we went in for another opinion. A 3rd opinion and we finally got a real diagnosis. She has a venous malformation and now we are going in to her original Dermatologist to discuss treatment plans. I guess what I am getting at is, if she has one VM is there a chance that she would have more? She was born with this one on her finger and it has been getting bigger ever since and she has no evidence of having more. But I have read that some are internal. So should I be worried that she could have more that we are not seeing? Should I have her doctor do a scan to check for more or is it a single thing incident? I am relieved but worried. Glad to finally know what it is but worried of whats to come. Any information that could help ease my mind would be great and greatly appreciated.

The general rule of thumb about checking for internal lesions is that if there are three or more external ones present, then they should check. I don't know if I would push for scans otherwise.

Please email Dr. Fishman from ask the expert area of this site. For peace of mind you might want a full scan. Dr. Fishman would be the best resource for if this is necessary. The rule of thumb is for hemangiomas (having 3 or more external lesions), not vm.
