Question Pws or salmon patch?

My son was born 3 months ago. 4 pediatricians have diagnosed the birthmarks on his face as salmon patches/angel kisses. He has a spot on one eyelid, a spot between his eyebrows and a large spot covering 50% of his nose. These doctors told us the birthmarks will most likely fade on their own in a few years. Then we saw a pediatric dermatologist who cannot be certain, but is leaning toward the birthmarks being pws. My question is how can they tell the difference? Should we begin laser treatment even though the diagnosis may be unclear. Is the pulse dye laser the same treatment used to treat persistent macular stains, like salmon patches? I'm worried and would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences.

Hi and welcome!

My suggestion, if you haven't already done so, is to get in touch with Dr. Nelson via There is no one I would trust more to know the difference. He would also know the best treatment scheme for each.

Enjoy your new little bundle!!
