Dr. Ryner Jose Carrillo is an associate professor of anatomy and otorhinolaryngology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM) and Philippine General Hospital (PGH). He obtained his medical degree from UPCM in 2000 and did residency training in Otorhinolaryngology at the PGH. He also holds a Masters degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the same institution. He is an academician and practicing otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon since 2006. He had trainings in sinus, voice and laser surgery, and management of vascular birthmarks. He is currently the chief of section of laryngology, bronchoesophagology and neck tumors (LBEN).
An active researcher, he has published both original research and case reports on multiple areas, such as ossicular chain discontinuity, audiometry, vocal cord pathology, acid reflux, thyroid and parathyroid neoplasms. His work experience and research interests include videostroboscopy and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, applications of laser in airway cancer and stenosis, airway resection and head and neck cancer. He is also actively engaged in exploring innovative approaches to medical education.
