What Our Families Are Saying About Us

"We relied on the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation to provide us with the information, the contacts, the resources, and the support that we needed to get through this difficult time. Their theme, "We are making a difference" couldn't be more accurate. For us, it was all the difference in the world."
Jill Brown

Hi Linda
Just a note to say how wonderful I found the interview of you and Capital 9 news. Thanks so much for your devotion.

VBF Launches 3rd Annual Day of Awareness Walk/Run for Birthmarks Challenge

VBF is excited to announce that our 3rd Annual Challenge – Walk/Run for Birthmarks – will be held on Friday, May 13th, 5:00pm, at the Crossings of Colonie, in Colonie, New York. Last year’s event was a huge success with over 300 attendees. We are optimistic that we will succeed that total this year.

For the second year in a row we are proud to announce that our 2011 Walk/Run event is sponsored by Mirkovic, Lambert & Teal, A Financial Advisory Practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. We are also proud to announce that our 2011 Birthmark Champion is Kaylee Rippy, (her grandparents are local and sought help from VBF for her treatment).

Please join our 5k race, or 1 mile walk teams. You can register on-line by going to the links below. This event is going to be a time of great family fun. We are going to have a bouncy bounce, tumbling tykes, face painting, music, food, and vascular birthmark “Experts” who will be on hand to answer questions for free about the diagnosis and treatment of hemangiomas and vascular malformations.

This year we are also adding a “Kids Fun Run” for the children. And, don’t miss out on the free T-Shirts to the first 300 registrants. It’s only $15 per person, $10 per student or teams members with 5 or more, or $30 per family.

Another new addition this year is our walk/run JOIN ME page. You can see links below to individuals who have created their own walk/run sponsorship page. If you can’t make our event in person, please sponsor one of our walkers/runners. So far we have VBF President/Founder Dr. Linda Rozell-Shannon who will be walking for Team Christine (her daughter). We also have Basia Joyce, VBF Executive Asst. who will be walking for Team Anna (her daughter) and…..

We are hoping for at least 25 “birthmark” teams to walk/run in this year’s event and 10 JOIN ME individuals. If you or a loved one has or had a vascular birthmark, put a team together and join us. Or, we will create a JOIN ME page for you so that you can invite your friends from all over the world to sponsor you in our walk/run event. Please contact Basia Joyce at to set up your own sponsorship page. This is a great way for you to help us reach this year’s goal of $20,000.

The 5k race course is a sanctioned course and certificates will be presented to the standard race category winners. We will also be presenting a certificate to the largest “birthmark” team.

Bring your friends, family, office, club, and classmates. Everyone is welcome. If you can’t walk or run, volunteer to work at one of our booths. Please help us to continue to make a positive difference in the lives of families affected by a vascular birthmark. And, if you can’t attend, please sponsor one of our Walk/Run for Birthmarks Challenge JOIN ME individuals listed on the links above. As always, thank you for helping to make a difference for families affected by a vascular birthmark.

Hot off the press....VBF Honorary Chairs Frank and Barbara Catalanotto will be attending the VBF 3rd Annual Walk/Run for Birthmarks. Frank retired from the New York Mets in 2010, but he will be on hand at the walk/run to sign autographs (with proceeds to benefit VBF). His wife, Barbara, will be participating in the 5k race.

Come join our walk/run and get a chance to meet a pro baseball player and get his autograph. You can also get your picture taken with Frank.

VBF is honored to have Frank and Barbara Catalanotto as our Honorary Chairs. Their daughter, Morgan, had a hemangioma on her nose and they were referred to VBF for support and treatment. Once they contacted VBF, they never left. That was 10 years ago and they have been critical in raising awareness and helping raise the funds needed to continue our work.

Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity. Walk/Run with us and also get a change to meet a pro baseball player ! ! ! !
