VBF Launches 5th Annual Day of Awareness Walk/Run for Birthmarks Challenge

VBF is excited to announce that our 5th Annual Challenge – Walk/Run for Birthmarks – will be held on Friday, May 10th, 5:00pm, at the Niskayuna Soccer Complex, Zenner Road, Niskayuna, NY. We are very excited about our new location this year. The Niskayuna Soccer Complex is a beautiful area with an extremely large parking lot, concession stand and access to the scenic Mohawk-Hudson Bike- Hike Trail, where our race and walk will occur.

We are proud to announce that our 2013 Birthmark Champion is Alec Frazier, a local boy whose parents sought help from VBF for his treatment.

Please join our 5k race, or 1 mile walk teams. You can register on-line by going to the links below. This event is going to be a time of great family fun. We are going to have a bouncy bounce, Tumbling Tykes, face painting, music by DJ Krazy Keith and Coccadotts cupcake van will be there!

We are also having a “Kids Fun Run” for the children. It’s only $15 per person, $10 per student or teams members of 5 or more, or $30 per family. And, don’t miss out on the free T-Shirts to the first 300 registrants.

You can also create your own walk/run JOIN ME page. See the link below to create a webpage for your own personal fundraiser for this event. If you can’t make our event in person, please sponsor one of our walkers/runners. So far we have VBF President/Founder Dr. Linda Rozell-Shannon who will be walking for Team Christine (her daughter). We also have Basia Joyce, VBF Executive Asst. who will be walking for Team Anna (her daughter). Each created their own JOIN ME page. You can click on their links below if you want to donate to one of their teams.

We are hoping for at least 25 “birthmark” teams to walk/run in this year’s event and 10 JOIN ME individuals. If you or a loved one has or had a vascular birthmark, put a team together and join us. Or, create a JOIN ME page so that you can invite your friends from all over the world to sponsor you in our walk/run event. You can create a personal fundraising page, where people can donate through your page or a team fundraising page. With a team fundraising page, you can have people sign up to walk or run on your team and their names will appear on your page and/or you can have people donate through your team page. You can tell your own story, set your own goal and you can also include a photo if you wish. The page only supports one jpeg. If you would like to use more than one photo (ie: before and after), you must combine them into one jpeg. If you are not able to do this yourself, you may email the photos to our web mistress, Missy at She will email the combined photo back to you. NOTE: Missy can not access your JOIN ME page and can not download the photo for you. If you have questions regarding creating your JOIN ME page, please contact Basia Joyce at This is a great way for you to help us reach this year’s goal of $20,000.

Certificates will be presented to the standard race category winners. We will also be presenting a certificate to the largest “birthmark” team.

Bring your friends, family, office, club, and classmates. Everyone is welcome. If you can’t walk or run, volunteer to work at one of our booths. Please help us to continue to make a positive difference in the lives of families affected by a vascular birthmark. And, if you can’t attend, please sponsor one of our Walk/Run for Birthmarks Challenge JOIN ME individuals listed in the links below. As always, thank you for helping to make a difference for families affected by a vascular birthmark.
