We have one year old twins, a boy and a girl. Our baby girl Djina was born with port wine stain on the left side of her face. She was born prematurely so in the beginning there were more important things to take care of, in the first place her motoric and neurological development. Since the things were getting better, we started looking for a solution of her problem with hemangioma. In our small country, there is only one clinic that uses laser treatment therapies. Due to Covid19 the clinic stopped with the treatments altogether. Because of that we started searching for alternative solutions by browsing the internet. And discovered the VBF.

The VBF was recommending Italy because of the proximity to our home country, approximately 1300km. Thanks to the VBF we got connected with Dr. Colletti. That led us to Djina’s first laser treatment which happened on her first birthday, Feb 10. The very experience was a mix of different kind of emotions, happiness, anxiousness, fear, relief all of that at the same time. Thankfully, everything went smoothly with the support and help of all the medical personnel, our friends and families. We are very grateful to the VBF for everything that they are doing for us in the time being. Special thanks to Milan Free Laser Clinic, which will continuously help Djina in her treatment and recovery.

Vascular birthmark could be a problem and at the same time not. We live in a world where we could be branded by our differences. Living in a smaller community could potentially lead to creating a non-necessary negative psychological impact. Since my child is a girl I want to give her the opportunity to have stress free, happy childhood and eventually adult life. At the end of the day the most important thing is health no matter how different we are.
