The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation

What is it?

A venous malformation is formed from a bundle of incorrectly formed veins. These incorrectly formed veins expand easily, leading to swelling that is noticeable on the surface of the skin. Venous malformations are present at birth, but may be located deep within the body and not found until adolescence or later in life. Venous malformations can be located anywhere on the body and grow as the patient grows.
